Power Steering AutoFacts Transcript
It’s an Auto Fact that when it comes to steering, knowledge is power. So what you should know, is the repairs most often done, are either to the steering rack unit or the power steering pump.
Today, most cars are fitted with power steering. The pump assists with the steering making it easier to turn the wheels, even when stationary.
The steering rack is connected to the front wheels and it’s the rack that allows the car to turn corners. Both these elements are crucial to safety so they should be checked regularly.
The largest cause of failure in these items is due to a worn power steering pump which will not only operate ineffectively, but they can also contaminate the steering hydraulics with metal particles, and are the most likely cause of damage to components in the system such as damaged fluid seals, sticky valves and scored shafts and power bores.
Leaking hydraulic pipes that drive the steering pump can also be an issue and need checking and from time to time, or replacing, as part of your regular service.
Now while it maybe the steering rack that has the problem, the team at Repco Authorised Service recommend that the pump is replaced at the same time as the rack and vice versa as it will save money in the long run.
You can take it from the best heads in the business …. local professionals with the nationwide backing of the biggest name in the automotive industry – Repco.
And that’s an AUTO FACT.
